Here’s the proof that you needed… to not prove that point! In fact, looking at the table above, you’ll see it’s an AGE thing, even the Traditionalists, also known as the Silent Generation, (born prior to 1945, only stayed 2-3 years with an employer back in the 1950’s. And the trend continues for Baby Boomers, GenX, and Millennials! While the Millennial generation is expected to make up 75% of the jobs filled by 2025, they have made a positive impact in the work place. Studies have shown, if you create the right environment/culture, you can actually increase the average amount of time a millennial stays employed with your organization.
You must have an Engaging Environment. A company’s values and culture are of the utmost importance to Millennials. They need to feel like they’re a part of a team and be continually recognized for a job well done. Second, provide employees the opportunity for Purposeful Work. This is outside of what they do as an employee in your organization. This is the “greater good to the globe” your company creates as the by-product of how you make a profit. Third, Giving Back is around giving all employees the opportunity and flexibility to volunteer for their charity of choice. Take a close look at what your employees are asking for, is it money, time, location?
Last, and most important, employers must weave these attributes into your job postings and how you approach potential candidates prior to a job even being posted. Use your Talent Communities to actively engage with potential candidates with thought leadership to drive people to understand what your company has to offer in these three areas.
